Covid-19

Covid-19 – Week twenty five: beginning 24/08/2020

Confusing British summer weather: I woke to drizzly rain, yet by the time I started work this morning the sun was out.

But rather than moping that I am stuck indoors during the good weather, I instead enjoy the sun shining in on me. And well there are always ‘coffee’ breaks to look forward to. I say ‘coffee’ breaks yet, anyone that has read my blog in its entirety or knows me can attest, I am no coffee or tea drinker. I am more of a sugar fiend, fizzy drink, juice or a hot chocolate or my beverages of choice. So as I drift to the kitchen for a drink I bask in the sun’s rays.

I have found stretching my legs regularly has made me more focused, giving my brain time to process. Time is also passing quicker and before I know it the bank holiday weekend is welcoming me.

We have planned a few day excursions. We made great time driving to Holy Island and are soon at the causeway. As we sit in the car watching the incoming tide, the wind blowing a gail, we decide to make a u turn on our plans. The open road in front of us we look for a sign, reading the places on route until – Berwick upon tweed here we come.

As we drive through the town, there is plenty of parking, reasonably priced and with toilets in the car park, we’ve hit a gold mine. Walking around town is like exploring abroad, arguably better with our four-legged friend. Beautiful doesn’t cover it, at every turn we find a new hidden treasure. A second-hand book shop, with masks, gloves and hand sanitizer upon entrance I feel like Bell, from Beauty and the Beast, entering the library. Reassured by the safety measures and with my four-legged friend welcome, with oohs and aahs I peruse the shelves, leaving with a hidden treasure of my own. While I can read digitally, there is something about a beautifully bounded and presented book that makes my heart flutter.

The adventures just keep coming and we spend Sunday enjoying the grounds at the National Trust property Cragside. Even with the house shut, the grounds are magnificent, we enjoy a full afternoon in the magic of nature and science at the home of hydroelectricity. We end the afternoon driving around the narrow single track to take in the full grounds giving me some much needed, while nerve racking driving practise in our 4×4.

While back in the house, we go foraging in the loft for fitted clothing. Having dropped three dress sizes through Slimming World, my clothes have been looking a tad on the baggy side. Not to mention my draws and wardrobe are full to bursting with clothes that don’t fit. Two hours later and a hot chocolate to warm me back up I feel curvy, sexy and youthful like I have been transported back to my uni days. My youth must have been shining through as I got asked for ID to buy a scratch card on our weekly shop. I would say I was flattered but as I didn’t have any on me, I was gutted that the birthday card it was to go in would be delayed. Who wouldn’t want to feel and look young forever?
