Covid-19 – Week fifty six: beginning 29/03/2021

The Easter bunny is on his way and with easter restrictions have eased. Monday morning brings new guidance: we can meet up to six people outside or two household, along with an end to the stay-at-home rule. While people at work talk of windy outdoor meet ups for later today. I am happy to wait for the long easter weekend to see family and friends.

While these restrictions offer more opportunities for social contact, the reality is I will not be seeing my siblings, my niece, nephew or some of my friends due to their location. However, the Easter bunny can, and I thoroughly enjoy putting together alternative Easter parcels. While imagining a posted chocolate egg is amusing – there are plenty of alternative Easter treats, I even source an Easter egg hunt. I do enjoy playing easter bunny, knowing the joy it will bring to others, and I promise no broken eggs chocolate or otherwise.

As the Easter weekend arrives, we enjoy yummy sweet and savoury treats and drinks. We are spoilt to homemade fudge, simnel cake, rocky road and cookies from friends, family and our own yummy baking adventures in the kitchen. Along with easter eggs, crème eggs, caramel eggs – the list goes on. And with the Christmas turkey defrosting on the side with chipolata sausages, this weekend is set to be one of delicious treats.

When Saturday evening arrives, my sister calls, and we enjoy a lovely catch up over the phone a long with a whiskey or two. It has been over a year now since we met in person, yet our regular phone calls close the gap, and we chat like she is in the room. The conversation goes on and only ends when we realise, we’re all nodding off. So, while I miss my sister, catch up’s like the one tonight really do show how resilient the human race are and how if you really want something you will make it happen. Easter Sunday arrives, and we embrace the day of rest, starting the day with bake in the oven cinnamon swirls and a tv show. Mid-morning brings a lovely dog walk in the sunshine – yes i even peal off my jacket for the first time in 2021. While the afternoon begins with turkey and all the trimmings, followed by starting a puzzle, continuing our Marvel marathon and enjoying more easter chocolatey treats. This Easter weekend really has felt like a relaxing break – we really have embraced slowing down, and it’s not over yet with bank holiday Monday tomorrow!
