Covid-19

Covid-19 – Week fifty eight: beginning 12/04/2021

Following confirmation from the government last week. This week sees the reopening of non-essential retail, along with hairdressers, beauty salons, gyms and pubs serving outside.

While I am excited to see things opening up, I won’t be rushing to go everywhere at once. I am however, looking forward to my hair cut. This lockdown has made me feel like Rapunzel my hair has grown that much. First hair cut in 2021! Pure pampered pleasure. My hairdresser and I talk like he hasn’t had to cut several inches of split ends from my hair. And I leave, not being able to help myself, I flick my hair in the wind. However, I feel like I leave with a new fiancé, looking totally different with his hair short once more.

But I guess we all look different, walking around with masks on indoors. However, on my weekly shop this brings social contact as I run into a fellow Disney fan.

“Nice mask,” A Stitch masked man said.

I realise in normal circumstances this would sound like we are all thieves about to carry out a raid. Yet during this pandemic mask wearing has become something of the norm. In this case Stich was complementing Mini Mouse bringing the reality that non-essential shops had reopened. Stitch thought their masks were new in rather than old stock. But I am delighted at the reminder I can return to the Disney store and purchase more masks. And so, I am proud to announce that the only shop bar a supermarket I have been to this week has been to the Disney store. I clearly need to get out more! And if my Google maps timeline is anything to go by, I really need to go to some new places. This month Google maps logged me at 3 locations! However, as the weekend arrives and we tune into Prince Phillips funeral, both my partner and I feel transported to Windsor Castle. We both reminisce in the times we attended Windsor to receive our Queen Scout Awards and meeting at a hotel bar. While also thinking back fondly on being presented with our Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award by the Prince and the conversation we had had with him. As we watch the modified Land Rover hearse we exchange looks of loss – he will be missed!
