Covid-19

Covid-19 – Week fifty: beginning 15/02/2021

Monday arrives and with it I face the dilemma of where I can safely go for exercise outside. After all the fun of the snow last week, this morning brings the reality of slippery hidden icy patches lurking under foot. I am starting to empathise with elderly people’s reluctance to leave the house during winter weather.

However, I have soon navigated to a cleared road through the cemetery. And so, our jogging route this morning, while a tad repetitive looping the cemetery, I am glad to report is slip free. It really has been a lovely jog that flew over. The white of the snow-covered grass in the rising sun made everything feel brighter and inviting.

By Tuesday the snow is like a dream, a distant memory. With the snow gone, I miss it already, funny how these things work. But at least I am holding onto the happy memories. And as my one-year anniversary of working from home looms, emerging from our third lockdown, staying positive feels more important than ever.

In the news this week, the governments message to people is to remain optimistic and patient about the coronavirus situation in the UK. However, with passengers arriving to the UK paying startling fees for 10 days hotel quarantine, I won’t be planning any foreign holidays anytime soon. Even the thought of international travel, when it is allowed, is far from my mind. For a second summer I will be happy to enjoy what the UK has to offer.

But there are lots of other things to look forward to. And this week I have started a playwriting course with Durham Assembly Rooms Theatre. It gets my mind thinking, creating, editing. A new focus and style of writing has been introduced into my life. I can’t wait for the next session.
