Covid-19

Covid-19 – Week sixty four: beginning 24/05/2021

It’s been an exhausting week with work feeling non-stop, but it’s all worth it for a lovely long bank holiday weekend. And with glorious sunshine forecast all weekend I feel like a tan is inevitable. So even though I log off late from work, when I finally close the lid of my laptop it is with the reassurance of a long relaxing weekend.

However, when Saturday arrives my partner and I have already made plans, heading to see my grandparents for a cuppa in the backyard, to the shops and then up to Gipside for a walk of the grounds. It’s harder than people think to just stop when you have had a busy week, joined with the want to do things and make the most of our time off.

The trip to see my grandparents was something I had been particularly looking forward to. They have both been shielding during the pandemic and so our interactions this last year have consisted of phone calls, video calls and the odd distant wave from the back gate. However, now they are both fully vaccinated and we are all able to take regular covid tests at home things are feeling a lot safer and normal form them and me. So as Saturday morning comes I sit enjoying my Gran’s chocolate cake, my grandparent’s company and the good weather, life finally feels rather normal.

When Sunday arrives, we are ready to laze around enjoying the art of doing nothing. Today we visit my parents at their caravan accompanied by the sun. Although I reapply sun cream to my shoulders, chest and face, I am soon turned into a robin red breast. We take relaxing a little too seriously, none of us realise the time, until a BBQ is out of the question. Yet the food tastes just as delicious cooked inside and with Monday off we end the bank holiday chillaxed.
