Covid-19

Covid-19 – Week sixty five: beginning 31/05/2021

I’ve had a Monday feeling all day this Tuesday. And I don’t think I was alone following what has been a lovely long bank holiday weekend. Work welcoming us back to go-go-go with lots to do I am sure I was likewise not alone in feeling the Monday blues. There were no children heading to school on my morning walk, no lolly pop lady to talk too and dare I suggest less cars on the road. However, by my fast-paced lunchtime walk through the park, children young to old were out leisurely enjoying the good weather. Jealous – yes who wouldn’t be? Half term really does suck when you’re at work.

However, after getting through Tuesday, hump day arrives carrying us into the weekend in no time. So, while work feels super busy and life feels like it is going at 100 miles an hour, this week has flown and has brought the start of my week off and endless possibilities. Starting with going to a friend’s house in the street on Friday evening. I may have socialised indoors a few times now, but the novelty after a year and a half of covid restrictions has not worn off yet.

While I am already very excited to be having the evening with a friend, the evenings activities take centre stage, as we prepare favours for her wedding this coming week. Although I am not attending the wedding, due to original covid restrictions on numbers, I have really enjoyed hearing about preparations and being an ear to listen to the stresses that many brides-to-be and others in the wedding party experience. So, when the bride calls just before I am due to arrive to say scrap being good, can we get takeout and have drinks. I obviously declined – liar liar pants on fire. I was far too excited to say no. With her Hen-do kept to a few friends a distant memory of the previous week, this is the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate her upcoming nuptials.

Midnight comes and goes; we both look over our handiwork with delight. Cosmopolitans, bottle of wine and moonshine. Takeout consumed, followed by popcorn and pretzels – we wouldn’t want to drink on an empty stomach. Favour bags packed, labelled and boxed, snack jars decorated, filled and boxed. My friend’s to-do-list had a few more items crossed off, and I felt like I had experienced a much-needed social evening.
