Covid-19

Covid-19 – Week sixty six: beginning 07/06/2021

My upcoming week off is set to be one of adventure. Feeling empowered with home testing kits for Covid, recommend to be taken twice weekly, I am reassured I am Covid clear and not spreading this terrible virus. I have been looking forward to my week off, contemplating where we might go, who we might see and what we might do.

Since the relaxation of restrictions last month, we have gained back more freedoms to socialise indoors and out with greater amounts of people. Indoor hospitality has reopened allowing for greater freedoms and possibilities for weekend breaks, day trips and outings. However, restrictions around international travel, and subsequent changes to which countries you need to self- isolate on return, has put off many holiday makers including me. But it has given us the opportunity to enjoy the UK’s good weather we are currently experiencing.

Leading up to this week I have been looking forward to enjoying sunshine, day trips, eating out, shopping etc. It all sounds very normal and reassuring that society is seeing a return to normal.

Another reassuring factor is that the vaccine roll out has reached those 30 and under. At the start of the week my partner got his first vaccine and by Saturday I had had mine too. With fatigue and a dead arm as our only side effects we both support each other by relaxing and indulging in sugary treats.

Sunday is here and another staycation comes to a close, this time with dinner in our backyard garden. After adding bargain bedding plants to our already flowery pots, as we sat eating tea at our outdoor table, I feel like I am in a walled garden abroad rather than a UK backyard. And as I sit, I think back over our lovely relaxing staycation.  A week well spent relaxing in the sunshine, indulging in yummy foods, walking in nature, window shopping and some gardening at home. Bring on more fun this summer. ⛱
